Story

The Pianura-Pozzuoli landfill took municipal solid waste and was closed in 1996. Over time it was also filled with industrial and special waste, mostly from the northern regions. As reported by Wikipedia, a 2000 inquiry by the parliamentary commission on waste found it likely that at least eight hundred thousand tonnes of sludge from the ACNA plant at Cengio had been disposed of there. The site lies about 50 metres as the crow flies from the Astroni nature reserve and within the Campi Flegrei regional park.

At the end of 2007, during the Campania waste emergency, the government considered reopening it; in January 2008 there were protests and clashes and the landfill was not reopened. In April 2008 a ministerial decree added it to the sites of national interest; in 2013 it passed to the Campania Region.

Official documents on the contaminants found and the works carried out could not be consulted.
